Lasciata l’Inghilterra fin da giovane, Suzanne vive in una bella villa nel sud della Francia, con un marito molto conservatore e due figli ormai adolescenti. Stanca della routine quotidiana e annoiata da un matrimonio senza entusiasmi, trova il coraggio per incontrare segretamente Ivan, un operaio spagnolo rude e silenzioso che le sta ristrutturando lo studio. La donna si sente desiderata e viva come non le era mai accaduto e quella che doveva essere solo un’avventura si trasforma in una passione travolgente. Decisa a rinunciare a tutto per seguire la sua storia d’amore, inizia una lotta senza esclusione di colpi con il marito che li spingerà fino alle scelte più estreme.
